Long Hair Don't Care.... The Ombre Edition

Ombre hair has been quite popular for over a year now and I have been wanting to give the trend a try, here are some of my favourite  celeb ombre looks....

I decided to try my hand at this trend on my clip- in extensions. After  doing some research I found out that normal beauty supply store hair can be bleached, however in order for this to be achieved one has to use  a 40 volume creme developer coupled with a long processing time .This is to facilitate maximum  lift of the dark hair  colour.Initially I wanted my ends to be burgundy or red but then I thought it would be too much or  too 'tun up" as us Jamaicans would call it so I opted for the classic style of slightly brown/blondish  ends. The following products were used for my first  DIY ombre project :

             1. Clairol  Basic White Bleach Powder
             2.Clairol Pure White Creme Developer
      3.Hair colour applicator and bowl
 4.Suave Naturals Conditioner

The Process : I first mixed the bleach and creme developer into  the bowl until the mixture had a creamy consistency, then I applied the mixture onto the ends of my extensions  only and kept it on for approximately 30-45 minutes, then I gradually proceeded up the length of my extensions with light, vertical  strokes in order to avoid the harsh line demarcation. In order for the colour to be uniform I applied the mixture on both sides of  the  clip-ins , the hair was then left to sit for about 5-7 hours ... yeah it was a really long time like watching paint dry. After constantly monitoring the hair and  was some what   satisfied with  the colour change I  thoroughly washed out the mixture, shampooed and then applied Suave conditioner and left it to sit  for another 15 minutes, rinsed and then left  extensions to air dry.  Here is a picture of the outcome I think I did a pretty good job on my first try...

What do you ladies think do you still like the ombre trend or  are you so over it?

  1. That looks so cool!! I really want ombre hair but my hair's just so dark, it's really hard to DIY. Sigh. Maybe I'll save up and get it done at a salon.

I've been contemplating on giving ombre a try this summer, we'll see if I have the guts to actually do it- I've never coloured my hair!
